The graphics were inspired by WPA posters.
And now they’ll inspire people to sponsor a lilac.
I am already being asked—When can I buy a poster? More than 900 rare WPA posters at the Library of Congress, produced from 1936-43 as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal, inspired these Campaign graphics.
They were designed to honor the original WPA workers, restore a nostalgic pride in Lilac Way and motivate people to make history—by becoming involved, volunteering, or sponsoring a lilac. (And the posters will be available when the Campaign is launched.) I am still working out final design details.
Want to help lobby to make Lilac Way an historic are with proposed highway signs? Cassandra Isackson, Engineer at Mn/DOT, says Mn/DOT only allows highway signs for routes that have been 'officially designated by the Minnesota Legislature.' We would like to work with the legislature and lobbyists, to see if we could start a drive to designate Lilac Way as an historical area.
If you are interested in lobbying for this official designation, email Karen.
